There have been so many times in my life that I could not wait to pick up a certain novel again. To commence where I left off: a busy spice market in Morocco, a small rural farm in Ohio or the steppes of Russia. An enjoyable book is often like this, transporting me into the storyline, immersing me in the characters and their lives. For a few bright moments, I suspend whatever may be happening around me and become one with the story. Instead of worrying about an upcoming surgery, I am worried about the young soldier being deployed or celebrating a special moment in a characters lives. And to me, these are moments of respite from the world and our busy lives.

For me, and I hope for you too, reading helps put things in proper perspective, helps people understand others and subsequently ourselves. And even if we don’t find certain characters relatable, we are often moved by their actions, both good and bad. I hope I have been able to create a memorable character and provide you respite with this novel, The Tides of Yesterday.

Thank you, Dianne

The Tides of Yesterday

She left the beach behind, but the tides of yesterday keep pulling her back.

In the summer of 1964, Cassy Everly arrives on the sunlit shores of Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, eager for new friendships and coastal adventures with her close-knit family. From learning to surf on sea green Atlantic swells to sharing midnight secrets with her older sister, Cassy’s world is full of hope and innocence. But when a devastating hurricane strikes the coast and a local boy goes missing, the tragedy and secrets of that fateful summer shatter her idyllic youth.

Twenty-five years later, Cassy returns home for her mother’s funeral, a successful architect who thought she’d left the past behind. Stepping back onto the windswept island, she finds memories waiting around every corner – her sister, Vivian, still hurt by old wounds; and the lingering question of what really happened that stormy night in 1965. As the barrier between past and present erodes, will the truth become undeniably evident or will the echoes of yesterday pull her under like a rip tide?
